Although Democratic-turned-independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has attracted some support from the right based on his free speech advocacy and opposition to vaccine mandates, there is no denying his leftist viewpoints on a host of other issues.

This week, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump weighed in on the matter directly with a social media statement posted shortly after Kennedy named far-left Democratic Party donor Nicole Shanahan as his running mate.

“RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far,” Trump wrote. “He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters. I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America.”

In addition to providing financial support for leftist prosecutors like Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, Shanahan’s political donation history also includes contributions to President Joe Biden’s 2020 White House bid. 

Trump took aim at Kennedy’s recent announcement, declaring that she “is even more ‘Liberal’ than him,’ if that’s possible.”

There has been ample speculation regarding whether Kennedy’s third-party campaign would siphon more votes from the Democratic or Republican nominee, but his selection of Shanahan to fill out the ticket has signaled that Biden will likely lose more votes than Trump.

For his part, the former president seems to agree with Kennedy’s sister, Rory, who recently asserted: “I do worry that Bobby just taking some percentage of votes from Biden could shift the election and lead to Trump’s election.”

Of course, Trump seems to be counting on such a scenario, declaring that Kennedy’s campaign is “great for MAGA,” referencing his own “Make America Great Again” platform.

“He is Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, not mine,” Trump wrote. “I love that he is running!”

The Democratic National Committee seems to have made a similar assessment, as evidenced in the remarks made during a call with donors recently.

“We’re concerned that Donald Trump is disrespecting the democratic process,” complained DNC adviser Ramsey Reid. “It’s pretty clear that Trump and his megadonors are propping up RFK Jr. as a stalking horse.”
