Hearing To Remove DA Fani Willis From Trump Case Set For December 5

The Georgia Court of Appeals is set to hear arguments on December 5 regarding the removal of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the election-related case against President Donald Trump. This development pauses the trial until after the upcoming election, as the court reviews a previous decision allowing Willis to remain on the case.
Trump’s legal team has pushed for Willis’s disqualification due to her alleged personal relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. In March, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled that either Wade or Willis must exit the case. Wade subsequently withdrew, but the Georgia Appeals Court decided to reexamine this ruling, pausing the proceedings until a decision is made. The appeals court has until March 2025 to issue a final ruling.
Trump is facing ten charges in Georgia concerning his actions following the 2020 election. The case, however, has been overshadowed by allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Willis and Wade, as well as claims that Willis financially benefited from this relationship. Michael Roman, a co-defendant, stated that Wade and Willis’s relationship began prior to Wade’s involvement in the Trump case, prompting Trump’s team to join Roman’s motion to dismiss the charges, arguing that the prosecution is invalid.
The recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity may also influence this case. Judge McAfee is expected to review whether the charges against Trump meet the criteria established by the Supreme Court.
