Biden May Drop Out Of Race, Avoids Endorsing Harris

President Joe Biden is rumored to be considering stepping down from the 2024 presidential race, possibly as soon as this weekend, according to reports by veteran journalist Mark Halperin. Halperin’s claims, shared on X and during a Newsmax appearance, state that Biden will not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting an open convention for the Democratic nomination.
These rumors come amid increasing pressure from within the Democratic Party for Biden to step aside. Influential Democrats, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and former President Barack Obama, have reportedly urged Biden to allow a new candidate to take the lead. Despite this, Biden’s team has denied the reports.
Biden spokesperson TJ Ducklo told Fox News Digital’s Brooke Singman that the report is “entirely inaccurate.” Another aide emphasized, “The President is more committed than ever to winning this election.”
According to Halperin, if Biden withdraws, the Democratic convention could be contested, with multiple candidates, including Harris, seeking the nomination. Harris is reportedly vetting potential running mates, such as Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
In a recent interview with BET, Biden mentioned he would consider stepping down if a medical condition required it. Shortly after, he tested positive for COVID-19 and canceled his remaining campaign events in Nevada, adding credibility to the rumors.
Halperin indicated he will continue discussing the potential outcomes of Biden’s withdrawal, including the preferences of key figures like Pelosi and the possibility that Harris may not seek the nomination. He also mentioned expected moves from Donald Trump’s campaign.
As the Democratic Party grapples with these developments, the coming days will be crucial in determining their strategy for the 2024 election. The political landscape remains in flux, with potential significant shifts in leadership on the horizon.
