Despite having frequently claimed to be a devout Catholic, President Joe Biden took great pains last week to de-emphasize his supposed faith’s most sacred holiday.

In addition to declaring that designs submitted for the annual White House Easter egg hunt “not include any questionable content, religious symbols [or] overtly religious themes,” the White House also issued a proclamation declaring that, instead of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Sunday would be a celebration of transgenderism.

In a proclamation issued on Saturday, Biden proclaimed “March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility” and urged “Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”

Although such proclamations have been made on the same day in recent years, the fact that it coincides with Easter this year drew a harsh rebuke from critics far and wide — including former President Donald Trump. 

“It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden’s White House prohibited children from submitting religious easter egg designs for their Easter Art event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility,’” asserted the Trump campaign on Saturday. “Sadly, these are just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith.”

A spokesperson for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee described Biden’s declaration as “blasphemous” and went on to call for “an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Donald Trump Jr. echoed his father’s stance, calling transgenderism “the left’s new religion. He asserted that they “want people worshiping the trans flag instead of God” and “must be stopped.”

Other critics remarked that they initially believed reports of the president’s proclamation must have been false.

Pro-life activist Lila Rose weighed in on social media, writing: “President Biden has announced that Easter Sunday is now ‘Trans Day of Visibility,’ pushing the toxic lie that one can be born in the ‘wrong body’ & it’s ‘healthcare’ to mutilate one’s body. Speak out loudly against this evil, which is destroying a whole generation of kids.”
