Conservatives Sound Alarm As Illegal Aliens Receive Voter Registration Forms
As the November election nears, Republican leaders are warning about illegal aliens receiving voter registration forms in 49 states, raising concerns about election integrity.
According to recent reports, voter registration forms are being provided to non-citizens through welfare offices and state agencies without verifying their citizenship status. These forms are often handed out with welfare benefit applications or driver’s licenses. Those eligible for these benefits typically have refugee, asylum, or humanitarian parole status. The 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) mandates states to offer voter registration at the DMV and other agencies handling benefit applications.
Federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting and falsely claiming citizenship, yet there is no requirement to prove citizenship when registering to vote. This loophole allows applicants to declare themselves as American citizens and receive voter registration forms without verification.
Arizona is the only state not providing voter registration forms to welfare applicants, but this rule applies only to state elections, not federal ones.
To address this, Republicans are pushing new legislation. The House Administration Committee has approved the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, requiring proof of citizenship before voter registration.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) commented, “While Biden and radical progressive Democrats give ISIS and criminals an app to literally schedule their illegal entry, Republicans must fight any chance of illegal voter registration until we can mass deport.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stressed the importance of stricter measures, stating, “As President Biden has welcomed millions of illegal aliens through our borders, including sophisticated criminal syndicates and foreign adversaries, it is incumbent upon Congress to implement greater enforcement measures that secure the voter registration process and ensure only American citizens decide the outcome of American elections.”
The potential for non-citizens voting has heightened concerns about voter fraud ahead of the 2024 election. Distrust remains high since the 2020 election, where many believe COVID-era changes, like ballot-harvesting and drop-boxes, unfairly benefited Joe Biden.
