Wisconsin Sheriff Sounds Alarm On Border Crisis: State Faces Dire Future Without Trump

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt warned that Wisconsin could face severe consequences if Vice President Kamala Harris defeats President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Testifying during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Milwaukee, Schmidt described the rising crime and drug trafficking linked to the border crisis that is straining local law enforcement resources.
Schmidt, who serves as president of the Badger State Sheriffs Association, explained that the situation is dire. “If Trump doesn’t win this election, we are screwed,” Schmidt quoted a fellow sheriff as saying. He added that another sheriff warned that most people do not grasp the extent of the crisis.

He described the drug trafficking problems his own county faces, highlighting how cartels are flooding the area with narcotics. “I’m fearful for my family and the families of those who serve with me,” Schmidt said. He emphasized the dangers posed by the influx of cartel violence and the strain on law enforcement.
Schmidt also spoke about the difficulties officers face when dealing with individuals without identification or licenses. “We need the federal government to secure the southern border,” he said, noting that Wisconsin sees 1,500 deaths from fentanyl poisoning each year.
“We will have more cartel members coming into the state of Wisconsin.”

Schmidt expressed his appreciation for Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) attending the hearing but criticized Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) for her absence, questioning why she didn’t show up to address such a crucial issue.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney also testified, citing the surge in drug trafficking along highways in his jurisdiction. “We’re seeing drug quantities at levels we’ve never seen before,” he said. Toney noted that the rising number of illegal immigrants being arrested and prosecuted for crimes is contributing to overcrowded jails, forcing counties to consider expanding their facilities.
The border crisis has become a major issue for Republicans, including President Trump and Senate candidate Eric Hovde, who are campaigning heavily on securing the border to protect communities like those in Wisconsin.
