USAID Sign Removed From Headquarters As Trump Freezes Spending

The headquarters of the United States Agency for International Development has had its name removed, with video footage showing the words stripped from the building. The change follows an effort by President Donald Trump to eliminate the agency after an audit exposed billions of taxpayer dollars spent on foreign media influence, leftist activism and global ideological initiatives.

USAID played a major role in funding Ukraine’s press, with nine out of ten outlets in the country relying on foreign donors. The agency was their largest financial backer, but with Trump’s administration freezing billions in USAID funds, those media organizations are now searching for alternative funding. Concerns have been raised about whether oligarchs or foreign adversaries will step in to take control of Ukraine’s press.

The audit also revealed USAID’s involvement in funding controversial social programs abroad. Money was allocated for LGBT lobbying in Serbia and a transgender opera in Colombia. Millions more were used to support a Sesame Street program in Iraq, gender-related training for journalists in Sri Lanka and a transgender comic book in Peru.

Black Lives Matter received substantial financial support through USAID-backed grants. The Soros-affiliated Tides Center was granted $24.7 million, with over $12.6 million being funneled to BLM organizations. These funds were directed to affiliates at the same time the movement was leading protests that resulted in billions of dollars in damage across American cities.

The agency’s reach extended into Europe, with a German lawmaker in the European Parliament calling for an investigation into whether USAID attempted to manipulate elections in multiple EU countries. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that his government will disclose all U.S. funding of foreign-backed media and activist groups.

Further scrutiny linked USAID to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. Reports indicate that the CIA whistleblower who triggered the impeachment relied on information from sources funded by USAID and the State Department. With the agency’s name now stripped from its headquarters, the Trump administration appears to be following through on its plans to dismantle USAID.
