President-elect Donald Trump sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter Biden, calling attention to what he described as the ongoing “miscarriage of Justice” for those imprisoned over the Jan. 6 protests. Trump took to social media Sunday night, questioning whether the pardon extended to the “J-6 Hostages” who remain incarcerated.

“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” Trump wrote.

Biden’s pardon of Hunter followed years of claims that he would not intervene in Justice Department matters. Hunter Biden had pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges and was convicted on gun-related offenses, with sentencing originally scheduled for December. The pardon shields him from prosecution for any crimes over the past decade.

In a statement, Biden defended his decision as a response to “raw politics” that he claimed tainted his son’s prosecution. “I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” Biden said.

Trump contrasted the pardon with the treatment of Jan. 6 protesters, many of whom remain incarcerated. He reiterated his campaign pledge to pardon all non-violent offenders prosecuted by the Biden administration’s Department of Justice for their roles in the protests, which he described as “selectively and unfairly prosecuted.”

Critics of Biden’s pardon pointed to a double standard in the justice system, highlighting the lack of accountability for BLM and Antifa rioters who caused widespread destruction in 2020. The summer of unrest, sparked by George Floyd’s death, resulted in billions of dollars in damage, yet few cases were pursued as aggressively as those involving Jan. 6 participants.

Trump’s comments signal a growing divide in how justice is perceived under Biden’s administration and set the stage for further scrutiny of the justice system as his administration approaches.
