Trump Assassination Hearing Descends Into Chaos Over Secret Service Failures

A task force hearing on the assassination attempts against President-elect Donald Trump erupted into chaos Thursday as Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) clashed with acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe over the agency’s perceived failures in protecting Trump. The heated exchange highlighted ongoing frustrations about security lapses that nearly cost Trump his life.

The hearing addressed two attempts on Trump’s life, including a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot in the ear, and a thwarted attack at a Florida golf course shortly after. Despite the high stakes, tensions boiled over as Rowe and Fallon sparred during the session.

Rowe attempted to explain his decades of public service, recounting his response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Fallon quickly cut him off, insisting the discussion stay focused on the agency’s handling of Trump’s security. “I’m not asking you that. I’m asking you—” Fallon began before being interrupted.

“Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes,” Rowe snapped. “I am a public servant who has served this nation.” The two men shouted over each other, with Rowe eventually exclaiming, “You are out of line.”

The hearing, the task force’s second public session, is part of a broader investigation into security failures surrounding the assassination attempts. A report detailing findings and recommendations is expected to be released by Dec. 13.

The contentious exchange underscores the deep concerns among lawmakers about the Secret Service’s ability to safeguard Trump as he prepares to return to office. With two assassination attempts already thwarted this year, the stakes for ensuring his safety remain at an all-time high.
