Teen Arrested In Wisconsin For Allegedly Targeting GOP Lawmaker’s Office Over TikTok Ban

A Wisconsin teenager was taken into custody after allegedly setting fire to a strip mall that houses the office of Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI). Authorities say the suspect admitted to starting the blaze out of frustration with ongoing efforts to ban TikTok in the U.S.
Law enforcement responded to reports of a fire early Sunday morning at the building in Fond du Lac. Firefighters quickly contained the flames before they could spread further. Police located a 19-year-old suspect nearby, who allegedly confessed to the act, citing his opposition to recent discussions on the social media platform’s future.
The suspect, identified as a Menasha resident, was arrested and booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on arson charges. Investigators say additional details will be made public once formal charges are filed.
FDLPD Chief Aaron Goldstein expressed relief that no injuries occurred, emphasizing the department’s commitment to ensuring public safety. “We are grateful that the office was unoccupied at the time and that our officers were able to respond quickly to both the fire and the suspect,” Goldstein stated.
Grothman has previously backed legislation that would force TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban. The law, signed by President Joe Biden last year, was upheld by the Supreme Court, which ruled it did not infringe on First Amendment rights and was necessary for national security.
TikTok initially shut down access for U.S. users after the ruling took effect but later announced efforts to restore the service. President Donald Trump has weighed in on the matter, indicating he may propose a solution that allows partial American ownership of the app.
