GOP Urged To Probe Alleged 25th Amendment Threats Against Biden

The American Accountability Foundation (AAF) has requested that House Speaker Mike Johnson investigate allegations that Democrats threatened President Biden with the 25th Amendment to force his withdrawal from the presidential race. The AAF’s demand is based on a report indicating that top Democrats pressured Biden to step aside or face removal from office under the amendment, which allows the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to declare the president unfit for duty.
In a letter to Speaker Johnson, the AAF described the alleged threat as “one of the most consequential seizures of power in American government history” if proven true. The group has called for the House Judiciary and Oversight committees to use their investigative powers to uncover any discussions or actions related to this alleged pressure campaign.
Biden recently announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. This decision came after significant internal party pressure and a poorly received debate performance, raising questions about his mental and physical fitness for office.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen publicly denied any discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment, asserting Biden’s competence in his role. However, the AAF insists on a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.
The call for an investigation underscores the ongoing political tension surrounding Biden’s presidency and the strategic moves within the Democratic Party. Speaker Johnson has yet to comment on the AAF’s request, leaving the potential for an official probe into these serious allegations.
