GOP Investigates Allegations Of Voter Registration Drives Targeting Noncitizens Outside Texas DMVs
The Texas GOP is investigating claims that Democrats are registering noncitizens to vote at tables set up outside Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations in Weatherford and Fort Worth. The reports, first highlighted by Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on social media, describe registration tables where immigrants were allegedly being signed up to vote without any checks on their citizenship status.
Parker County GOP Chairman Brady Gray said that he has been overwhelmed with messages from concerned residents and has launched a full investigation into the claims. Gray expressed concern that these alleged voter registration drives could be part of a larger effort by Democrats to manipulate the upcoming election. “We are, and I will be fully investigating the claims in our community,” Gray said.
Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French also responded, calling the situation “beyond troubling” and urging swift action from Texas state leaders. French called for stricter enforcement of voter ID laws and additional measures to ensure that only citizens are registered to vote. He also demanded that Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Attorney General Ken Paxton take immediate steps to address the issue.
Paxton, who shared Bartiromo’s post, later released a statement reinforcing his commitment to ensuring election integrity in Texas. He warned that anyone found registering noncitizens or facilitating illegal voting would face severe legal consequences.
The investigation highlights the broader Republican concern that voter registration processes are being exploited, potentially undermining the integrity of Texas’s electoral system. As the investigation moves forward, it’s likely to increase scrutiny of how voter registration laws are enforced across the state.
