GOP Demands Garland Reveal If DOJ Investigating Biden Whistleblowers

In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, House Republicans demanded answers about the Biden administration’s alleged targeting of whistleblowers.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) sent the letter to Garland this week — where they questioned whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) had launched an investigation into individuals who blew the whistle on the Biden family’s alleged corruption.

“Recently, the Committees learned from Special Counsel David Weiss’s filing that the Justice Department is apparently investigating Internal Revenue Service (‘IRS’) Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and Special Agent Joseph Ziegler for their protected whistleblower disclosures to Congress related to the Department’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigation,” the letter alleged.

“The Committees will not tolerate any retaliatory conduct by the Department against these or any other whistleblowers,” the Republican lawmakers wrote, adding: “Whistleblowers play an integral role in identifying and rooting out waste, fraud, abuse, mismanagement, and corruption within federal agencies. Federal law protects whistleblowers from retaliation.”

“Any efforts, including those by the Department, to investigate whistleblowers for making lawful disclosures raise serious concerns about the continued weaponization of the federal government,” the letter continued. “Any and all attempts to intimidate or retaliate against Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler for their protected disclosures to Congress must stop.”

The aforementioned whistleblowers, former IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, came forward with politically damaging allegations about President Joe Biden, his administration and his family business schemes.

According to Breitbart News, these revelations included four major allegations, with the first being that “Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf refused to allow investigators to ask about Joe Biden being ‘the big guy.’”

The second allegation was that the “DOJ twice prevented U.S. Attorney David Weiss from bringing stronger charges” against Hunter Biden in his tax investigation, according to the outlet.

Breitbart News reported that the third allegation was that Garland had “refused to name a special counsel in the tax investigation” into the president’s son, while the fourth was that “the IRS recommended charges against Hunter that were not approved by Garland.”

Following the whistleblowers’ testimonies to Congress, the DOJ was reportedly pressured by Hunter Biden’s legal team to prosecute the whistleblowers. In June, House Republicans voted to make public evidence of multiple instances of political interference where the DOJ “thwarted, hampered or interfered” with the IRS investigation into Hunter.

Jordan, Comer and Smith noted in their letter this week that the DOJ’s alleged investigation into the whistleblowers came at the behest of Hunter Biden.

“Hunter Biden and his lawyers have waged an aggressive intimidation campaign against Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler, slandering them with false allegations and demanding that the Justice Department investigate them for making protected disclosures to Congress,” they wrote.

The Republican lawmakers brought evidence to support their claims, writing: “Among other tactics, on October 31, 2022, Hunter Biden’s former lawyer, Chris Clark, sent a letter to then-U.S. Attorney Weiss falsely accusing Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler of illegally leaking information about the investigation to the press and demanding they be investigated.”
