Don Lemon Blasts TIME Magazine For Naming Trump ‘Person Of The Year’

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has lashed out at TIME Magazine for naming President-elect Donald Trump as its 2024 “Person of the Year.” Trump, who won the title for the second time, was recognized following his victory in all seven swing states and his upcoming second presidential term.

Lemon, who was fired from CNN last year, took to TikTok to voice his outrage, questioning whether the honor was a “joke” or a “scam.” He claimed the magazine could have selected “anyone” else for the distinction, including figures he suggested better represent democracy.

“If they wanted to make someone Person of the Year, they could’ve chosen someone who actually stands for democracy,” Lemon said. “What are you doing, TIME Magazine? What would you say to those women who still read your publication?”

TIME defended its decision by highlighting Trump’s undeniable influence on American politics and his impact on both parties. The magazine’s feature included an in-depth interview with the president-elect, covering his electoral victory and policy plans for his return to the White House.

Lemon dismissed the choice, citing Trump’s legal issues and allegations of wrongdoing. “You have someone on the cover who inspired an insurrection, tried to overturn a free election, and has been found guilty on multiple criminal counts,” Lemon argued. “Is this a joke? Did someone put out a fake tweet about this?”

The former anchor’s criticism aligns with his outspoken stance on Trump, even after his departure from mainstream media. Meanwhile, Trump supporters have embraced the recognition, viewing it as further evidence of his significant influence.

Other finalists for the title included Vice President Kamala Harris, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, podcaster Joe Rogan, and X owner Elon Musk. TIME has traditionally named presidential election winners as “Person of the Year” in election years, a trend that dates back to 2000.

As Trump prepares to be sworn in next month, his selection by TIME underscores his continued role as a central figure in global politics, despite divisive opinions about his leadership.
