China’s Election Interference In Canada Buried As Trudeau’s Government Blocks Transparency

New intelligence reports confirm what many have long suspected — China has deeply infiltrated Canada’s political system, using covert influence tactics to benefit Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party while government officials work to keep the truth hidden from the public.

CSIS findings reveal that China actively interfered in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 elections, funneling funds to at least 11 candidates, most of whom ran under Trudeau’s party banner. Beijing’s goal was clear — to ensure a friendly government remained in power. Despite overwhelming evidence, the Trudeau administration has refused to release the names of those involved.

Independent journalist Sam Cooper uncovered additional intelligence indicating that China’s influence operations have been ongoing for decades. His reporting highlights Beijing’s strategic efforts to embed operatives within key sectors of Canada’s government, media and economic infrastructure. A declassified parliamentary report describes China’s interference as “sophisticated, persistent and multi-dimensional.”

One of the most alarming examples of Chinese infiltration involves Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg. Two scientists, Xiangguo Qiu and Keding Cheng, were accused of secretly transferring classified research to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Despite warnings from intelligence officials, the Trudeau administration initially refused to release details about the case. It was only after court rulings forced the government’s hand that documents revealed the extent of the security breach.

Instead of exposing foreign interference, the Trudeau government has spent years obstructing investigations. A House of Commons ethics committee probe into China’s election meddling was shut down, and a separate investigation into the Winnipeg lab scandal faced similar roadblocks. Opposition lawmakers have accused Trudeau’s team of prioritizing political cover-ups over national security.

Now, the issue has gained the attention of US officials. A congressional committee has requested intelligence briefings on China’s infiltration of Canada’s security and research institutions, signaling growing concern from Canada’s allies about the lack of transparency from the Trudeau administration.
