Trump’s External Revenue Service Aims To Boost American Prosperity

President-elect Donald Trump is moving forward with bold economic reforms aimed at reducing the tax burden on American workers. His announcement of the External Revenue Service (ERS) marks a significant step toward strengthening the US economy by collecting revenue from foreign nations rather than American taxpayers.

Trump announced the creation of the ERS on Truth Social, stating that for too long, the United States has depended on taxing its citizens while allowing foreign countries to profit from weak trade agreements. The ERS, launching on January 20, will focus on collecting tariffs, duties and other revenue from foreign entities.

This initiative reflects Trump’s broader economic strategy to prioritize American workers and industries. By shifting the tax burden to foreign countries that benefit from US markets, Trump is making good on his promise to hold other nations accountable and protect American prosperity.

Trump has already proposed sweeping tariffs, including a 10% to 20% tax on all imported goods and up to 60% on Chinese products. He has also warned Mexico and Canada of a potential 25% tariff if they fail to cooperate with US immigration policies.

Currently, tariff collection falls under the responsibility of US Customs and Border Protection. However, the creation of the ERS would centralize this process, making it more efficient and directly aligned with Trump’s trade policies. Some of Trump’s allies, like Steve Bannon, have suggested placing the ERS within the Treasury Department to avoid overburdening the IRS.

Economist EJ Antoni praised the plan, highlighting the benefits of moving away from income taxes and toward tariffs. This strategy, he argued, could lead to significant relief for American taxpayers and encourage domestic economic growth.

By launching the ERS, Trump is taking decisive action to restore fairness in trade and reduce the financial strain on American families. This bold move underscores his commitment to building a stronger and more self-reliant America.
