Trump Demands Pelosi Be Prosecuted For Alleged Insider Trading Linked To Visa Stock
President Donald Trump is calling for the prosecution of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi following a report that her husband, Paul Pelosi, sold a large amount of Visa stock just before the company faced a lawsuit from the Department of Justice. Speaking from Trump Tower in Manhattan, Trump accused Pelosi of benefiting from insider information, suggesting that the stock sale was not coincidental.
“Nancy Pelosi sold Visa stock one day before the big lawsuit that we all read about,” Trump said, referring to the DOJ’s antitrust case accusing Visa of monopolizing the debit credit market. He demanded that Pelosi face legal consequences, stating, “She should be prosecuted.”
Paul Pelosi sold around $500,000 in Visa stock on July 3, months before the DOJ lawsuit caused the stock to drop by 5%. Nancy Pelosi’s office quickly denied any involvement, claiming that she had no prior knowledge of the sale and does not own any stocks. Former securities attorney Ron Geffner urged caution, noting that more details are needed to determine if insider trading was involved.
Trump’s remarks also included criticism of Pelosi’s actions during the Jan. 6 protests at the Capitol, accusing her of refusing to allow National Guard assistance during the event. However, it is the stock trade that has garnered the most attention, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the timing of the sale.
As the calls for prosecution grow, the Visa stock trade controversy has reignited debates over the ethical responsibilities of public officials and their families in managing financial assets. Trump’s demand for legal action against Pelosi is likely to fuel further scrutiny of the former Speaker and her family’s financial dealings.
