Swift’s Popularity Takes A Hit After Endorsing Kamala Harris
Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has led to a noticeable decline in her popularity, especially among independent and Republican voters. A new NBC News poll shows that Swift’s favorability rating dropped from 40% in 2023 to 33% this year, with 27% now holding a negative opinion of the singer, up from 16% last year.
The most significant decline is seen among Republicans, with 47% now viewing her unfavorably, nearly doubling from last year’s 26%. Meanwhile, just 12% of Republicans still hold a positive opinion of Swift, a sharp decline from 28%. The shift suggests that her endorsement of Harris, while it pleased some Democrats, didn’t resonate with a broader audience.
Among independents, Swift’s favorability also saw a decline, dropping from 34% to 26%. These figures highlight a challenge for public figures who align themselves with political candidates — particularly those as polarizing as Harris. Swift’s influence, especially on younger voters, may not have had the desired impact the Democrats were hoping for.
Despite Swift encouraging her fans to make informed decisions and vote how they see fit, her endorsement of Harris was viewed as more political than personal. With Harris’ ongoing struggles among young progressives, some of whom have opposed her over the administration’s handling of foreign policy issues like the conflict in Gaza, Swift’s backing may have alienated certain segments of her fan base. Many progressive voters have shown interest in third-party candidates like Jill Stein of the Green Party, further complicating Harris’ appeal in the 2024 race.
