Squatters Allegedly Take Over Elderly Man’s Colorado Home, Family Desperate For Help
An elderly Colorado man suffering from dementia is reportedly living in fear after squatters took over his home in Colorado Springs. William Towns, 76, initially invited a homeless woman into his home to help with chores, but his daughters claim she soon moved in with her boyfriend, son, and belongings, effectively taking control of the house.
The family alleges that the squatters have since started a mushroom-growing operation in the living room and have engaged in underage drug use. Towns, who has lived in the house for decades, now feels unsafe and has been harassed by the unwanted guests, his daughters say.
The police have been called multiple times, but local authorities have told the family that since the squatters were invited inside, they cannot be forcibly removed without going through the eviction process. This legal process is both lengthy and expensive, adding to the family’s frustration.
Towns’ daughters have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds needed to cover legal fees. “We feel helpless, and our dad is afraid to live in his own home,” the family stated. The situation has left the family feeling that the legal system is not on their side as they work to reclaim their father’s house.
