Pentagon Orders More Troops To Border As Trump Administration Increases Security Measures

The U.S. military is increasing its presence at the southern border with up to 3,000 active-duty troops set to deploy in the coming weeks. The move, approved by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday, aims to reinforce border security and strengthen enforcement efforts under President Donald Trump’s leadership.
The deployment will include members of the 4th Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team from Fort Carson, Colorado. Along with ground troops, an aviation battalion will provide aerial support to enhance surveillance and border monitoring operations. The Stryker vehicles — which have been used in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan — will be transported by rail and truck to the border, with Arizona expected to be a key location.

This new wave of troops follows a January deployment of 1,500 service members who joined the 2,500 National Guard and Reserve forces already stationed at the border. The Pentagon’s mission, as stated in an official announcement, is to “reinforce and expand current border security operations” and “maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States.”

Meanwhile, Mexico’s National Guard has been increasing its own border enforcement, particularly in areas such as Tijuana. President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government has prioritized security measures as part of broader discussions with the U.S. administration, including ongoing tariff negotiations.

During a February visit to the border, Hegseth issued a warning to criminal groups operating in the region, stating that the administration is prepared to take whatever actions are necessary to secure the border. His message, coupled with the latest troop deployment, underscores the Trump administration’s commitment to tightening security.

The arrival of additional forces is expected in the coming weeks. Military officials say the deployment will not only assist in border security but will also provide training opportunities for troops operating in a high-intensity environment.
