Officers Say New Jersey Police Chief Turned Department Into Hostile Circus Of Abuse

Multiple officers from the North Bergen Police Department say their chief has made the workplace unbearable, claiming he spiked coffee with drugs, used human waste to intimidate staff and mailed sex paraphernalia to one officer’s house. The allegations were laid out in five legal notices filed by officers preparing to sue the township.

Lt. Alex Guzman alleges that Chief Robert Farley not only defecated in front of staff but intentionally left feces around the office, including in wastebaskets and on bathroom floors. He also claims Farley exposed himself more than once and made crude remarks in the office.

Detective Michael A. Derin says he witnessed Farley drop Viagra and Adderall into the office coffee pot, stirring until they dissolved. As a result, Derin switched to single-serve machines, saying he no longer felt safe drinking from the shared pot.
Meanwhile, Michael F. Derin, a former captain, claims Farley ran him down in the office and jabbed a needle into his groin, drawing blood. After he raised concerns and tried to report the behavior, Derin says he was fired and his son was moved to a worse schedule.

Guzman also accused Farley of targeting his family by mailing sex toys and other items to his house. These packages, he said, were opened by his wife and children. In addition, the chief allegedly blamed Guzman for internal leaks and made him the scapegoat for growing discord.

Additional complaints describe firecrackers placed under chairs, doorbells torn from walls and televisions smashed during fits of rage. At one point, a microwave was used to heat hot peppers, which filled the air with fumes strong enough to trigger a fire department response.

Town officials say they deny the accusations and support Farley, stating that the claims are being referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office due to the potential for conflict of interest.
