MTG Supports Trump’s Plan To Rename Gulf Of Mexico To Gulf Of America
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced her intent to introduce legislation renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” backing President-elect Donald Trump’s recent comments. Greene promised to bring the bill to Congress “as soon as possible.”
During a press conference, Trump criticized Mexico’s trade practices and immigration policies, claiming the country had taken advantage of the United States for years. “We’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate,” Trump said.
Greene, speaking on a conservative podcast, said she was motivated by Trump’s remarks and immediately directed her staff to draft the legislation. She later shared a video online, calling the initiative part of Trump’s vision for his second term.
President Trump’s second term is off to a GREAT start.

The bill would likely require federal agencies to adopt the new name in official communications. However, implementing the change could necessitate federal funding, raising concerns among some of Greene’s fellow Republicans. Critics have also questioned the practicality of such a move, calling it a symbolic gesture with little tangible benefit.

It is now the Gulf of America. Calling it the "Gulf of Mexico" is misgendering and deadnaming it. pic.twitter.com/ulUwINdMC3

Trump’s comments on the Gulf of Mexico follow his recent push to levy additional tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods, part of his economic agenda aimed at reshaping trade relations. The president-elect has also made headlines by suggesting a merger with Canada, claiming it would eliminate tariffs and bolster security.

Greene’s proposed legislation has already gained interest from other Republican lawmakers, though it faces long odds in a divided Congress. While supporters see the name change as a statement of American pride, opponents argue it could exacerbate tensions with neighboring countries.
YES! Trump just declared that he is changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to The Gulf Of America! 🇺🇸
I love it. What do you think about that?

Trump is legitimately about to buy Greenland, liberate Canada, reclaim the Panama Canal, and rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America”.

The proposal, while largely symbolic, highlights the continued focus on nationalist policies as Trump prepares for his second term. Whether the Gulf of America becomes a reality remains to be seen.
