Kamala Harris Campaign Faces Accusations Of Manipulating Online Platforms

The Kamala Harris campaign is accused of running a widespread online manipulation effort, reportedly using Discord to coordinate actions on major platforms like Reddit and X. According to The Federalist, Harris staffers are directing volunteers to inflate her popularity through tactics that some say are deceptive.

Harris’ team allegedly instructed volunteers to up-vote pro-Harris content and down-vote critical posts on Reddit, creating the impression of greater support. In just 15 days, thousands of posts have reportedly gained millions of upvotes and hundreds of thousands of comments. Over 100 top posts on Reddit’s “Politics” section last month are said to have come from Harris supporters involved in the operation.

On X, the campaign is accused of interfering with “community notes,” a fact-check feature. Harris’ team allegedly instructed followers to mass “dislike” critical notes, preventing them from appearing on her posts. This tactic, if true, would block fact-checks on posts that may be misleading.

Additionally, Google’s involvement has come under scrutiny, with reports that the Harris campaign altered headlines in search results to reflect favorably on her policies, often without the knowledge of the original publishers. Elon Musk, CEO of X, has announced an investigation into these alleged tactics, raising questions about the ethical implications of such strategies.
