Iran Missile Barrage Hits Israel As Netanyahu Vows Swift Retaliation

Israel faced its largest missile attack ever as Iran launched over 200 missiles into the country, targeting cities like Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Israel’s defense systems, with assistance from the U.S., intercepted most of the projectiles, although some managed to hit southern and central Israel. Fortunately, the strikes caused only minor injuries and damage, according to Israeli officials.

Iran’s missile barrage followed a series of Israeli airstrikes that killed key Hezbollah and Iranian military leaders, including Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah. Iran framed its missile attack as a direct response to these assassinations. In turn, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised immediate retaliation, warning that Iran had “made a big mistake.”

Israel has been engaged in a military campaign in southern Lebanon to push Hezbollah forces away from the border, following weeks of rocket attacks from the militant group. The operation has led to more than 1,000 deaths in Lebanon and displaced over one million people. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has vowed to continue launching rockets into Israel until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.

President Joe Biden expressed strong support for Israel, stating that the U.S. helped intercept many of the missiles launched by Iran. Biden emphasized that the U.S. would continue to stand by Israel’s side in this conflict.

The U.N. Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting to address the escalating violence, as tensions between Israel and Iran show no signs of easing.
