Internal Probe Reveals AFGE Official’s Mistreatment Of Employees
An investigation has revealed that Jeremy A. Lannan, National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices at the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), has been mistreating his staff. The probe, conducted by the Potomac Law Group, found that Lannan fostered a toxic work environment characterized by bullying and intimidation, contrary to his role of protecting workers’ rights.
Lannan’s executive assistant described his leadership as oppressive, stating he managed through fear, causing her significant distress. Another employee, responsible for managing cases of government discrimination, reported that Lannan’s unpredictable behavior and frequent outbursts led her to seek therapy. These issues resulted in a high turnover rate among his staff.
AFGE National Vice President Arnold Scott charged Lannan with violating the union’s constitution by creating a hostile work environment. Scott emphasized the seriousness of the charges and recommended Lannan’s removal to mitigate legal risks for the union. “There needs to be a clear message sent that this type of conduct will not be tolerated by officers of AFGE,” Scott stated.
Despite these allegations, Lannan has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the investigation is biased against him due to his sexual orientation. He remains a key figure in the union and is running for president in the upcoming election. This situation raises significant concerns about the leadership within AFGE and its commitment to protecting the rights of its members.
