Illegal Migrants Free In The US Have Elevated Homicide Rates

Illegal migrants allowed to live freely in the U.S. under the Non-Detained Docket (NDD) have a homicide rate 13 times higher than the national average, according to a report by Dr. John R. Lott. The study, based on U.S. Department of Justice data, highlights the financial and societal impact of these crimes, estimating costs to taxpayers at $166 billion.

ICE revealed that as of mid-2024, 662,566 illegal migrants with criminal records are on the NDD. Among these, 435,719 have convictions from their home countries, while 226,847 face pending charges. These individuals remain at large while awaiting case resolutions.

In 2023 alone, 14,944 homicides were attributed to individuals on the NDD. The docket also accounted for 20,061 sexual assaults, 105,146 assaults, 126,343 traffic violations, and 60,268 property crimes, including burglary and robbery.

Lott’s report calculated that homicides alone cost $153.8 billion, forming the bulk of the total $166.5 billion attributed to crimes committed by those on the NDD. He warned that the actual costs are likely much higher, as his analysis assumes each offender commits only one crime.

The report also pointed out that its findings exclude half of the criminal migrants living freely, suggesting the problem is even more severe than indicated.

Lott’s study raises questions about the policies that allow migrants with serious criminal histories to remain in the U.S. while awaiting deportation hearings.
