House Oversight Launches Inquiry Into Gov. Walz’s Extensive China Ties

The House Oversight Committee has initiated an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) regarding his numerous connections to China, including a student exchange program allegedly funded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced the probe following reports detailing the governor’s long-standing relationships with CCP entities and officials.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) voiced support for the investigation, stating, “We must ensure that our elected officials are free from foreign influence. Governor Walz’s extensive dealings with China demand a thorough examination.”

Key focus areas of the investigation include:

  • Walz’s reported 30 trips to China
  • His fellowship at a Chinese institution with CCP affiliations
  • Speeches alongside officials from CCP-linked organizations
  • A student exchange program allegedly backed by the CCP

The committee has requested information from FBI Director Christopher Wray regarding CCP-connected entities and officials associated with Walz.

Critics have questioned Walz’s apparent affinity for China, including controversial statements he allegedly made comparing Chinese actions to U.S. historical events.

The probe also aims to examine the reported presence of a Chinese “secret police station” in the Twin Cities and its potential links to Walz-affiliated organizations.

Author Peter Schweizer raised concerns about Walz’s stance on China, noting the governor’s reluctance to criticize CCP activities while being outspoken on domestic issues.

As the investigation unfolds, it’s likely to fuel debates about foreign influence in U.S. politics and the extent of China’s reach into American institutions, potentially impacting future policy decisions and diplomatic relations.
