Harris’ Border Crisis Rhetoric Contradicts Her Track Record
Kamala Harris is suddenly interested in tackling the southern border crisis, but her actions tell a different story. As vice president and the nation’s designated “border czar,” Harris has largely ignored the escalating crisis for years. Now, with the 2024 election approaching, she claims she will address the fentanyl epidemic by stopping the flow of illegal drugs into the U.S.
However, critics argue that Harris’ newfound focus is nothing more than a political ploy. Despite overseeing the border since 2021, she has rarely visited the region or implemented significant policy changes. In fact, during her time as border czar, over 325,000 Americans died from drug overdoses — many of which were linked to fentanyl. Yet, Harris is only now visiting border towns like Douglas, Arizona, promising tougher action as she ramps up her presidential campaign.
Grieving families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl are outraged by her inaction. Anne Fundner, whose son died from fentanyl poisoning, testified to Congress that Harris and President Joe Biden’s border policies are directly responsible for the crisis. “Vice President Harris…has failed to act meaningfully,” Fundner told lawmakers, criticizing Harris for allowing the problem to spiral out of control.
Even Democrats acknowledge that Harris has shifted her stance on immigration for political reasons. In 2019, during her first presidential campaign, she embraced the progressive wing of the party by supporting decriminalizing illegal border crossings. Now, with the 2024 election in sight, Harris is claiming to take a tougher stance to appeal to more moderate voters.
The question remains: is Harris genuinely concerned about the crisis, or is she simply trying to win votes? Given her track record, many fear her current promises will fade once the election passes, leaving the border crisis unresolved.
