George W. Bush Refuses To Endorse Trump, Highlights Ongoing Neocon Divide

Former President George W. Bush has once again chosen not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, continuing his long-standing refusal to support President Donald Trump. Bush, whose legacy is marked by the Iraq War, a conflict that caused deep divisions and had long-lasting effects on America, has distanced himself from Trump, a president known for not starting any new wars during his time in office.

Bush’s office confirmed that neither he nor his wife, Laura, will endorse or reveal how they plan to vote in the upcoming election, stating, “President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago.” His decision comes amid growing tension within the Republican Party, particularly between neoconservatives like Bush and Trump’s America First movement, which prioritizes avoiding foreign entanglements and endless wars.

The former president’s neutrality contrasts sharply with former Vice President Dick Cheney’s recent announcement that he will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris. Cheney, who served as Bush’s right-hand man during the Iraq War, has criticized Trump in harsh terms, calling him “the greatest threat” to the nation and vowing never to support him. Cheney’s decision reflects the deep-rooted animosity many neoconservatives have toward Trump, who has challenged their foreign policy legacy.

Trump, in response, called Cheney an “irrelevant RINO,” underscoring the division between the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party and Trump’s anti-war approach. This is not the first time Bush has withheld support for Trump. In both 2016 and 2020, Bush avoided endorsing Trump, instead writing in Condoleezza Rice in the 2020 election.

As the 2024 election approaches, the ongoing refusal of Bush and other neoconservative figures to support Trump highlights the deep ideological divide within the Republican Party, particularly when it comes to foreign policy and America’s role on the world stage.
