FBI Raids Home Of NYPD Interim Commissioner Amid Ongoing Corruption Probes

The FBI has raided the home of NYPD Interim Commissioner Thomas Donlon, just a week after the resignation of his predecessor, Edward Caban, due to a similar investigation. The raid, which took place on September 20, has added to a growing list of distractions for the NYPD as several high-ranking officials in New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ circle are facing criminal investigations.

Donlon confirmed the raid, stating that federal agents seized materials dating back 20 years but emphasized that these items were unrelated to his role with the NYPD. “This is not a department matter,” Donlon said, adding that the department would not comment further.

The investigation into Donlon appears to focus on whether he took classified materials during his time working for the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. Previously, Donlon had been the head of the FBI’s National Threat Assessment Center and was involved in the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Donlon’s appointment followed Caban’s sudden resignation just over a week ago. Caban stepped down after federal agents seized his phone, as part of a probe into his connection to a nightclub security business owned by his twin brother, James Caban. Investigators are looking into whether Caban used his position to help his brother’s business by “fixing” problems for bars and clubs.

Mayor Adams has seen numerous associates caught up in criminal probes, including Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks and several other high-ranking officials. The investigations, spearheaded by the Southern District of New York, are focusing on corruption and misuse of power.
