Fauci Faces State-Level Scrutiny As Attorneys General Open New Investigation

A group of 17 state attorneys general has launched an investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci’s role in the COVID-19 response, citing concerns about mismanagement, misleading statements, and suppression of scientific debate. The effort, led by Attorney General Alan Wilson, moves forward despite former President Joe Biden’s last-minute pardon shielding Fauci from federal prosecution.

The attorneys general sent a letter to congressional leadership, requesting access to any relevant findings from federal investigations that could assist in state-level legal action. They argue that Biden’s pardon does not prevent states from pursuing accountability.

“President Biden’s blanket pardon of Dr. Fauci is a shameful attempt to prevent accountability,” Wilson said in a statement. “If any of these findings indicate violations of state laws, we are fully prepared to take appropriate action to ensure justice is served.”

The investigation follows a December 2024 congressional report that raised serious concerns about Fauci’s conduct. According to the report, Fauci worked to suppress the lab leak theory and downplayed evidence supporting it. He is also accused of providing false information to Congress regarding the National Institutes of Health’s funding of risky virus research in Wuhan, China.

Biden defended his decision to pardon Fauci, calling him a “dedicated public servant” who played a key role in managing multiple public health emergencies. However, state officials argue that legal questions remain, particularly regarding whether Fauci’s actions violated state laws or misused state resources.

Attorneys general from states including Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Missouri have joined the effort. They have vowed to investigate any wrongdoing and ensure transparency in public health decision-making.
