Fani Willis Tells Former Prosecutor To Avoid Testifying In House Investigation

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has instructed her former top prosecutor and ex-lover, Nathan Wade, to avoid answering questions from the House Judiciary Committee about his work in her office. Willis’s directive came ahead of Wade’s scheduled deposition with the committee, which is investigating alleged misconduct in her office.

In a letter to Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Willis expressed concern that Wade’s testimony might reveal confidential information, specifically regarding ongoing criminal prosecutions. Wade was assigned to only one case while working for Willis — the case against Donald Trump for alleged election interference.

Willis’s handling of Trump’s case has encountered several legal challenges. Jordan’s investigation into Willis has raised questions about her office receiving over $14.6 million in grants from the Department of Justice (DOJ) between 2020 and 2023, with critics speculating whether these funds were used to prosecute Trump.

Nathan Wade resigned from the case in March 2024 after a ruling by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee found that while there was no “actual conflict,” Wade’s relationship with Willis created an “appearance of impropriety.” The relationship between Willis and Wade has drawn significant scrutiny, particularly after reports surfaced that they exchanged over 2,000 phone calls in the months leading up to their romantic involvement.

Despite the controversy, Willis maintains her office’s actions are above board, while Trump’s legal team continues to argue that the prosecution is politically motivated. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The ongoing House investigation will likely focus on whether Willis’s office improperly handled the case against Trump.
