Elon Musk Boosts Security After Being Labeled ‘Public Enemy’ By Media

Elon Musk is ramping up his personal security after being singled out as “Public Enemy No. 2” by the German publication Der Spiegel due to his support of Donald Trump. The billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla blames the mainstream media for creating a hostile environment that is “actively encouraging” his assassination.

Speaking at a town hall event in Pittsburgh, Musk revealed that the Der Spiegel cover story portrayed him and Trump as threats to democracy, which he believes is contributing to a dangerous political climate. He told the audience that he is now a prime target, second only to Trump, due to his outspoken political stance and his purchase of X (formerly Twitter), where he reinstated free speech policies.

Musk expressed frustration with the media’s portrayal of him and Trump, stating, “I’m pro-democracy. I’m literally trying to uphold the Constitution and ensure we have a free and fair election.” He acknowledged that the stakes are high and that he is increasing his security measures, even jokingly referencing JFK’s assassination. “So, dramatically increasing my risk of being assassinated and engaging in politics are not what I want to do, but I really feel I have no choice.”

The tech entrepreneur also addressed the intense hate coming from the left, contrasting it with what he sees as more tolerance from the right. Musk remarked on the “level of vitriolic hatred” being directed at him, adding that while right-wing individuals may disagree with the left, they do not harbor the same level of animosity.
