Congress Investigates Alleged Collusion Between Office Of Gun Violence Prevention And Everytown
The House Oversight Committee is investigating the Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) for possible collusion with the anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety. Under the leadership of Chairman James Comer (R-KY), the committee has issued subpoenas to OGVP Director Stefanie Feldman and ATF Director Steven Dettelbach, aiming to uncover the extent of their involvement in litigation against Glock.
The inquiry stems from a December 2023 meeting where OGVP representatives allegedly discussed modifications to Glock pistols. This meeting occurred shortly before the City of Chicago filed a lawsuit against Glock with assistance from Everytown’s legal arm. Chairman Comer raised concerns about the apparent insider information shared by John Feinblatt, president of Everytown, who seemed aware of the OGVP’s discussions with Glock.
Efforts to obtain documentation regarding communications between the OGVP and Everytown have been met with resistance. Feldman ignored a request for information, and her deputy dismissed the inquiry as a political stunt. In light of this lack of cooperation, the committee escalated its investigation by issuing subpoenas, demanding answers about the coordination that may have influenced the lawsuit against Glock.
Critics of the OGVP have raised alarms about the influence of dark money and undisclosed funding in shaping gun policy. This situation highlights the potential for government entities to collaborate with advocacy groups, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the political process.
As the investigation unfolds, the committee aims to clarify the relationship between the OGVP and Everytown, shedding light on how advocacy organizations may exert influence over government actions concerning gun control.
