Colorado’s War on Parents and Reality
Just when you thought the radical left couldn’t sink any lower, Colorado’s Democratic lawmakers have outdone themselves. Not content with merely indoctrinating children in schools, they’re now working to criminalize parents who dare to disagree with their children’s gender confusion.
The ironically named “Kelly Loving Act” is nothing more than a Trojan horse designed to strip parents of their rights while simultaneously forcing everyone to participate in dangerous gender ideology—whether they’re alive or dead. This isn’t progressive legislation; it’s government overreach of the most intrusive kind.
During a recent committee hearing, Democratic state Rep. Yara Zokaie revealed the true contempt these legislators have for ordinary Americans who still believe in biological reality. Rather than engaging with legitimate concerns from parent advocacy groups, Zokaie opted to compare them to one of the most vile hate groups in American history.
“A well-stakeholded bill does not need to be discussed with hate groups. We don’t ask someone passing civil rights legislation to go ask the KKK their opinion,” she declared, apparently seeing no difference between violent racists and concerned mothers and fathers.
Compelled Speech and Criminal Penalties
The totalitarian impulses of this legislation don’t stop at family court. The bill would also mandate recording a deceased person’s chosen gender identity on their death certificates, with violators facing serious legal consequences. That’s right—in Colorado, you could soon face up to 120 days in jail and a $750 fine for refusing to falsify official government documents. Death certificates are medical and legal documents that have traditionally reflected biological reality, but apparently science must now bow to ideology.
“This is very much in line with Colorado’s overall war on reality and war on scientific truth. The idea that not only does a doctor or mortician have to lie, they’re being tried with jail, that’s insane. It’s compelled speech.”, says Dr. Travis Morrell.
While states like California, New York, Washington, and Oregon have similar laws regarding death certificates, Colorado is breaking new ground by attaching criminal penalties. The message is clear: comply with progressive gender ideology or face imprisonment. The First Amendment apparently doesn’t apply when it comes to pronouns. And that’s exactly what the radical left wants—to criminalize dissent while pretending they’re championing “human rights.” When did forcing people to say things they don’t believe become a human right?
Destroying Families in the Name of “Protection”
The most insidious aspect of this legislation is how it weaponizes family court against parents who refuse to affirm their child’s gender confusion. Under the “Kelly Loving Act,” a parent who uses their child’s birth name or biologically correct pronouns could be charged with “coercive control” in custody disputes. Let that sink in—loving your child enough to not indulge in potentially harmful gender ideology could cost you custody of that child. Meanwhile, the parent who rushes to put their confused kid on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones is considered the “good” parent.
The bill would also prevent Colorado courts from enforcing laws from other states that protect children from gender transition procedures. So if a family moves from a state with saner policies on protecting children from experimental medical interventions, Colorado will actively work to undermine those protections.
Democratic Rep. Javier Mabrey made their intentions crystal clear, stating “there’s no reason to go to the table with people who are echoing hateful rhetoric” about the trans community. Translation: if you have concerns about children being sterilized or mutilated in the name of gender affirmation, your opinion doesn’t count and you’re not worthy of debate.
