Biden Blames Obama For Russia’s Invasion Of Ukraine, New Book Reveals

A new book by journalist Bob Woodward reveals that President Joe Biden holds former President Barack Obama responsible for emboldening Russian President Vladimir Putin, which led to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. According to War, Biden reportedly told a friend that the Obama administration “f—ed up” by not taking Putin seriously in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea.

The book highlights Biden’s frustration with Obama’s decision not to send weapons to Ukraine in 2014, a move that many Ukrainian officials also blame for Russia’s later invasion. Biden reportedly fumed, “We did nothing. We gave Putin a license to continue!” He further vowed to revoke Putin’s “license” during his own presidency.

In addition to revealing Biden’s deep frustration, the book sheds light on how the Biden-Harris administration learned in October 2021 about Putin’s plans to invade Ukraine, thanks to a high-level source inside the Kremlin. This intelligence coup gave U.S. officials a rare insight into Putin’s military strategy.

Biden confronted Putin in a tense video call in December 2021, where discussions became heated, and Putin reportedly threatened nuclear war. Six months after the invasion, U.S. intelligence warned that Putin, facing major setbacks, might resort to using tactical nuclear weapons, with the likelihood estimated to be as high as 50%.
