AG Paxton Uncovers Alleged Fraud In ActBlue Donations, Seeks FEC Intervention
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is raising alarm over what he calls suspicious donations made through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s online donation platform. After a year-long investigation, Paxton has petitioned the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to address what he describes as “straw donations,” where fraudulent transactions are used to hide a donor’s true identity.
Paxton’s investigation found that prepaid credit cards, often used by fraudsters, were allegedly involved in obscuring the identities of ActBlue donors. These untraceable donations raise concerns over whether campaign finance laws are being violated. Paxton stated, “Bad actors can easily bypass legal donation limits, funnel foreign money, and jeopardize the integrity of American elections.”
In August, ActBlue introduced a measure requiring credit card donors to provide a CVV code. However, Paxton argues that this is insufficient to prevent the ongoing abuse. He is calling on the FEC to create new rules that would close the loopholes identified in his investigation.
Paxton’s petition also highlights the potential for foreign interference in U.S. elections if these loopholes are not addressed. The FEC is now being urged to act quickly to prevent further violations.
